The impending departure of the UK from the European Union has provoked debate about how the country will develop economically. In spite of a world leading university sector, the UK is home to relatively few home grown technology successes. It has instead been a platform for foreign firms, but foreign direct investment has collapsed in the wake of the Brexit vote. The UK government has committed the country to a significant increase in research and development expenditure. How this debate is playing out is the focus of this lecture.
主讲人简介：
Steve McGuire is Dean and Professor of Business and Public Policy at the University of Sussex Business School. He holds a doctorate in international political economy from Oxford and has held academic appointments in the UK, France and Belgium. His research interests are in the strategic management of high technology firms and how trade policy influences firm behaviour. He is currently Principal Investigator on a major EU grant, RESPECT, which examines European Union trade policy. He serves on the editorial boards of two journals, Business and Politics and European Journal of International Management. He is also a member of the ESRC’s Peer Review College.
