Tsinghua SPPM welcomed the first students in the IMPA program. The IMPA candidates consisted of a diverse group of senior government officials from 17 African and Asian countries. The ceremony was attended by Tsinghua Vice-chancellor Xie Weihe, Vice-director of International Affairs from the Ministry of Education, Sheng Jianxue. Vice-director of Foreign Aid from the Ministry of Commerce, Yu Yingfu, with the opening speech by SPPM Vice-dean Wang Youqiang.
The IMPA program is a joint project by the Chinese Ministry of Education and Chinese Ministry of Commerce with Tsinghua SPPM and the School of Government at Peking University. The project aims to strengthen and deepen cooperation with developing countries at senior-levels and to foster public leaders. Tsinghua SPPM has developed a detailed training plan that will enable candidates to gain a deeper understanding of development issues, particular in regards to China’s development experience. Candidates will compare their home countries with China and identify common characteristics which they can improve on using policy tools and effective public governance to address the challenges of development.
