Internationally renowned economist Nicholas Stern of the Stern Report on Climate Change paid a visit to Tsinghua SPPM to give a lecture on “Key Elements of a Global Deal and Climate Change – Implications for China”. He was welcomed by Tsinghua Vice-president He Jiankun. The lecture was presided by SPPM Dean Xue Lan and Vice-dean Wang Youqiang alongside many senior professors. Also presenting was Director of Center for China Studies, Professor Hu Angang who presented how to reach global agreement over climate change and the role of China. Many questions were asked by audience members after the lecture and a further seminar was held to explore the issues further.
Sir Nicholas Stern is currently professor at the London School of Economics. He recently established the ‘Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment’. Professor Stern has served as the Chief Economist for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and subsequently as Chief Economist and Senior Vice-President of the World Bank. He was awarded the title of Lord in 2004 for his public services.
