Tsinghua SPPM with the US Embassy & Center for American Progress (CAP) held a joint symposium to discuss the topic of ‘What Will Obama Do? – from Bush to Obama: What are the New Plans and How Does Presidential Transition Work?’ The symposium was organized in two parts. The first was a roundtable discussion with the SPPM Dean, Professor Xue Lan, Fellow at the Center for Amercian Government at John Hopkins University, Dan Guttman, Deputy Director of the Political Section at the US Embassy in China, Ben Moeling and Professor Zhe Sun from the department of International Relations at Tsinghua University. This was followed by a second teleconference with CAP in Washington DC with Nina Hachigan, Snr fellow at CAP, Rudy deLeon, Snr Vice-president of National Security and International Policy at CAP and Vice-president of CAP, Ed Paisley. Over 50 people attended the meeting with CAP experts discussing their first-hand experience in planning and executing Presidential transitions and their soon to be released book ‘
Change for America – A Progressive Blueprint for the 44th President’. During the Q&A sessions, many questions were raised from students from surrounding campuses and there was much discussion with audience members. The event was sponsored by Tsinghua SPPM’s Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance.
