Invited by Dean of Tsinghua’s School of Public Policy and Management Dr. Xue Lan, former Director General of the World Trade Organization Pascal Lamy visited Tsinghua University on February 19th, and delivered a lecture titled “World Trade and Global Governance”. Associate Director of Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance Dr. Chen Ling moderated the discussion and gave opening remarks on behalf of the School of Public Policy and Management.

In his lecture, Mr. Lamy stressed that world trade can become the engine of global economic growth, only when it is guaranteed by appropriate socio-economic policies both domestically and internationally; and that the making of these policies requires intensive synergy between international players. In conclusion, Mr. Lamy points that global governance needs to be more effective and extensive to tackle the many challenges posed by the wave of globalization.
Research Fellow of the National Development Research Center Long Guoqiang shared his comments on Mr. Lamy’s lecture. After the talk, Mr. Lamy took audience questions. Associate Dean of School of Public Policy and Management Meng Bo, Professor Yu An, Liu Zhilin and Liang Zheng also attended the event.
