On Friday, March 14th, Richard Ghiasy, a MID 2011 alumnus, now working as a research fellow at the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies, had come back to SPPM to deliver a short talk at the Debate Society Roundtable, a society which he together with his classmate Stephan Mothe created during their study in Tsinghua. The topic ‘ The development I see’ brings about his point of view on the work he has been doing in Kabul since leaving the University, the everyday life in a war-torn country of Afghanistan, and his vision for future development. One of the key points which Richard and fellow MID students kept coming back in the talk was the need of a strong government, not only for Afghanistan, but also for many developing countries when addressing development issues. The examples of such strong political will and sturdy government institution was the taken from the cases of China and Singapore.
Richard also shares his experience in career development with fellow SPPM students, giving useful advice on networking and being prepared for the working environment, especially for those who are soon to graduate. (By Hoang Vu, MID2012)
