Abstract:
Dr. Kabat’s scientific expertise and research cover earth system science, global change, climate system, climate change impacts and ect. Academic and societal awards and distinctions received by Dr. Kabat include 2007 Nobel Peace Prize (co-recipient of a group prize awarded to IPCC), The Zayed International Prize for the Environment (group award to the authors of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment in 2006), and several honorary degrees, memberships and distinguished fellowships internationally.
During the lecture, Dr. Kabat will share his insights on Benefits of Systems Analysis for Policy Support. He believes narrowly focused, single-disciplinary science alone cannot adequately underpin policies and solutions to resolve major sustainability challenges, and we must rapidly refocus intellectual and economic investments toward multi-scale, integrated, interdisciplinary approaches that consider social, economic, and environmental aspects, that look across and between borders and sectors, and that identify feedbacks or the co - benefits of a policy or management decision, before it is made.
