Biography:
Makhtar Diop is the World Bank's Vice President for the Africa Region. He has been in the position since May 6, 2012. Before taking up this position, he was the World Bank Country Director for Brazil, managing the World Bank’s largest country program. Piror to this appointment, he served variously as Director of Strategy and Operations in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region; and Sector Director for Finance, Private Sector and Infrastructure in the same region; and Country Director for Kenya, Eritrea, and Somalia.
Before joining the World Bank, Mr. Diop worked at the International Monetary Fund, and served as Minister of Economy and Finance in Senegal.
Mr. Diop completed his graduate studies in economics at the University of Warwick and the University of Nottingham (UK), in Macroeconomics and Econometrics. He also holds a Finance Degree from the Ecole Supérieure Libre des Sciences Commerciales Appliquées - ESLSCA (Grande Ecole), France
