In 2011, CIEDS was co-founded by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Tsinghua University. By linking China’s most prestigious academy to the nation’s top-ranked university, CIEDS has embarked on a path to become a national think tank that supports the strategic development of science and technology in China. With the mission of promoting scientific development and transforming the pattern of national economic growth, CIEDS is dedicated to supporting the decision-making process of national innovation and engineering development by providing strategic and visionary consultative advice. It focuses on several major domains involving strategic engineering innovations and social economic development, including (but not limited to) urbanization studies, energy & mineral resources, environmental policies, and emerging technologies and industries
