Institute for Chinese Development Strategy of Engineering & Technology，Tsinghua University was co-founded by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Tsinghua University on April 18, 2011. It is a university-level research institute, affiliated to Research & Development Affairs Office, Tsinghua University, supported by School of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University. Academician Zhong Zhihua and Academician Hao Jiming, both act as Director of Academic Board; Tsinghua University CPC Committee Secretary Qiu Yong, serves as Director of Management Council;and , Tsinghua University Vice President Zeng Rong assumes Insititue Dean. The Institute consists of various divisions, including Strategic Emerging Industries Research Office, Ecological Civilization Construction Research Office, as well as Administration Office.

Orientation: adhering to high-level, open, and forward-looking development strategy; carrying out theoretical and applied research, policy consulting, planning preliminary research, talent cultivation and training focusing on comprehensive and strategic projects with overall importance in development of engineering technology; striving to build a first-class strategic research institute featuring "small entity, large alliance, and networking", and actively building a first-class think tank of engineering technology strategies research, to blossom into an important component of national high-end think tank.

Major functions: undertaking the engineering technology development strategy consulting research projects of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, providing consulting services for the strategic decision-making of the state and relevant ministries and commissions; researching important theoretical issues in the development of engineering technology, and building an engineering technology development strategy and policy data information database; researching the theories, methods and procedures for engineering technology development strategies, and promoting the construction of disciplines related to engineering technology development strategies; cultivating researchers, teaching staff and managers in the field of engineering technology development strategies; providing engineering technology strategy consulting services for large enterprises, social groups and organizations; boosting international exchanges and cooperation in the field of engineering technology development strategy research.

Since its inception, thanks to the participation of over a thousand academicians and experts, the Institute, has successively carried out a series of major consulting projects circling engineering technology on new-type of urbanization, emerging industries, ecological civilization construction, energy revolution, submitted various research results to state agencies and win applauds from national leaders; some research results have been published, arousing extensive attention from society.

In addition, the Institute has been actively building a series of high-end national and international exchange platforms, including Great Wall Engineering Technology Conference, Forum on Cultivation and Development of Strategic Emerging Industries, triggering tremendous social response. In the meantime, the Institute has participated in construction of the Intelligent Support System for Strategic Studies of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and achieved outstanding results.
