My journey to Tsinghua University was initiated by providence. My curious mind led me to doing many research and Tsinghua University stood out to me having perused its many achievements. With my background in Human Resource Management coupled with my interest in public advocacy, I opted for the School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM) at this prestigious institution, one many individuals are eager to be enrolled in.
It all started during my period of service as a teaching assistant at the Islamic University of Ghana (IUCG). I considered a lot of factors before I applied to Tsinghua, more specifically SPPM. With the current challenging economic and environmental problems, any accomplished master’s student needs to be equipped with skills to make real differences to his country, the society and the world at large. Hence, after my exploration of SPPM’s track record and achievements in the short years since its establishment, I concluded SPPM was my school of choice.
Having learnt SPPM is the first Public Administration school in China and a member of leading world bodies in Public Administration with about six permanent research centers, I could not resist the urge to become a part of this legacy.
I was particularly enthused with the warm reception given by the school’s management prior to my coming to China and the continuous guidance and attention we received, in terms of academics and campus life. With ten nationalities in my cohort, every one of us share this sentiment that SPPM has left us with life long lasting memories upon our arrival and will continue to integrate us into the school and the Chinese culture. This in my mind contributes to the view that SPPM will continue to be one of the top Public Administration schools not only in China and Asia but the world.
My primary plan is to give my studies the needed attention it deserves. However, I intend to engage and familiarize myself with activities on campus and the Chinese environment and culture immensely from sports to entertainment throughout the semester and academic year. Additionally, I will try my best to master the Chinese language.
As the class representative of the MIDG class I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the president of Tsinghua University and his management team, the leaders of SPPM and all their employees – especially the MID/MIDG department, and the Government and the all the people of China, especially from those of us under the Chinese Government Scholarship.
Finally, I would like commend all the professors I have met so far for their exceptional way of teaching coupled with advice and guidance on how to manage and attend to our studies, especially Ms. Yanmei Duan, for her tremendous support, help and guidance.
