On August 23rd, the opening ceremony of SPPM was held at Tsinghua Main Building. Attendees are: Dean Xue Lan, Vice Dean Wu Yongping, Vice Dean Peng Zongchao, Party Secretary Meng Qingguo, Party Deputy Secretary Xie Jin, Professor Cheng Wenhao, Shi Zulin, Yang Yansui, Li Baoming, Liu Qiushi, Yin Chengzhi, Ru Peng, Zhang Nan, Meng Bo, Mu Ling, and over 200 MID, MPA, academic graduate students.
Professor Yin Chengzhi, representing faculty members, emphasized on the inclusiveness of academic atmosphere, faculty composition and souce of students. This inclusiveness, international perspective of the faculty, government vision and social vision will provide students with opportunites for learning and for becoming the "knower". In this process of live and learn in School of Public Policy and Management, students continuously build solid foundation, improve academic theory, focus on cultural enrichment, and make full use of time in Tsinghua University and in SPPM.
Finally, on behalf of the School, Dean Xue Lan addressed welcoming remarks. Professor Xue analyzed the market and materialism in today's society, addressed examples of SPPM outstanding graduates and Sudan Embassy officials working in grassroots of Wenchuan. He encouraged SPPM freshmen to be independent thinkers and innovators, to empower lofty ideals and compassion, to uphold public policy and management training, to lead and strive to become public management talent in Tsinghua's new century. Today, China is facing the challenges of globalization with Chinese characteristics is the essence of China's development model, but have an international outlook lies reasonably absorb, with the introduction of foreign development experience. The Tsinghua brand means commitment to the quality of education, Tsinghua SPPM has a strong teacher advantage, and has a large number of international students, students can quickly improve their abilities in the day-to-day life of learning and student exchange. His freshmen put forward three suggestions: first, to clear their own responsibility, and establish long-term aspirations, our momentum on the development of economic restructuring and social transformation are very good, but was behind in the governance transition students is imperative personal goals with national closely integrated; second, students should make life-long learning, a sense preparation treat time to develop habits such as gold, pay attention to the academic norms and academic ethics, to consciously resist unhealthy academic wind; third, pay attention to the learning method, and seriously comprehend the connotation and implication of President Hu Jintao's the Tsinghua Centennial Celebration "three combinations" speech.
Subsequently, the former party secretary of Tsinghua SPPM, Professor Emeritus Fang Hui-jian inspired new students with his lecture in Tsinghua History. The entire lecture process, Fang Hui-jian teacher Shengqingbingmao centuries Tsinghua History presented in front of students, so freshmen have a more profound understanding and deep feelings of Tsinghua.
At the end of the ceremony, Vice Dean Wu Yong-ping again expressed welcoming and blessings 2012 students, the opening ceremony came to an end in the warm applause.
