In the afternoon of September 20th, MID held its first Development and Practice Seminars. SPPM Dean Xue Lan was invited to be the guest speaker. Assistant Dean Meng Bo presided over the event. MDP Project Executive Director Liu Zhi-lin, MID, IMPA and Chinese students participated in this event.
Dean Xue Lan is the Cheung Kong Scholar in China public management disciplines, a winner in the National Natural Science Foundation of Outstanding Youth Fund and the Fudan Management Outstanding Contribution Award. He serves as a member of the National Council Emergency Management Expert Group, a member of the Advisory Board in Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government, an adjunct professor in Carnegie Mellon University. In 2003 and 2011, Dean Xue gave lectures for the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Since Dean Xue in office, Tsinghua School of Public Policy and Management has been working for more exchange and collaboration in instructional design, case cooperation and R & D, as well as teacher training, providing domestic experts and foreign students a platform for exchanging ideas and learning from academics and politicians.
After Assistant Dean Meng Bo gave a brief introduction to the course of development practice, Dean Xue Lan lectured on “Domestic Reforms and Globalization - China's Innovation System Dynamic Change”. Within an hour Dean Xue introduced the history of the development of China's innovation system. Students questioned on the world financial crisis, China's political reform, China's economic development and the role played by China in the international community. Professor Xue Lan exchanged his views.
MID development practice seminars in this semester provide students with the opportunity to communicate face-to-face with experts in the field of public administration and international development, and to expand the theoretical knowledge into practice. It is designed to help international students to learn more about China’s 30 years of reform and opening up, and at the same time to further understand China about its development and challenges of anti-poverty, education, environment, harmonious development.
