Tsinghua’s winter break for Academic year of 2015-2016 is from Jan 4 to Feb 18th. For most students from MIDG class of 2015, it is really their first time to spend such a long winter in chilly Beijing and enjoy the Chinese Lunar New Year. It is indeed a relaxing time for students after four-month intensive studies, but they definitely are excited to take this opportunity to explore more in this historic city. To enrich their experiences in China, both the university and school has tailored some activities for on-campus students.
On Jan 28th, some visited the Capital Museum leading by MIDG Academic Professor, YIN Chengzhi, whose expertise is in urbanization. He well combined specialized knowledge with on-site learning which deeply impressed the participating students.
On Feb 1st, it was the lunar New Year according to Chinese lunar calendar. SPPM Associate Dean, Prof. MENG Bo firstly took students to taste one of Chinese specialty- Lanzhou stretched noodle and then watched a fantastic movie Kung Fu Panda 3.
On Feb 7th, it was the Chinese New Year Eve and considered as the most important festival in China and people normally have family reunion wherever they are on this special day. Tsinghua university thus prepared a feast for all on-campus teachers and students. All participants were invited to make Chinese traditional food-dumpling, especially for Chinese New Year and had New Year Eve’s dinner together. Prof. MENG Bo also joined in the event to celebrate the holiday with MIDG students.
According to Chinese Zodiac, 2016 is the year of Monkey. We wish all have a happy, healthy and prosperous year!
