The 7th Asian Leadership Conference (ALC) with the theme on “Asia Tomorrow: Innovation 4.0” was held by the The ChosunIlbo in Seoul, Korea, from May 17th to 18th, 2016. Global leaders, including Park Geun-Hye, President of the Republic of Korea, George W. Bush, Former President of the United States, Gerhard Schroeder, Former Prime Minister of Germany, Jenny Shipley, Former Prime Minister of New Zealand, George Papandreou, Former Prime Minister of Greece, Masoumeh Ebtekar, Vice President of Iran, came together to discuss and provide possible solutions for the pressing issues that Asia is facing today. Professor XUE Lan, Dean of SPPM was invited to attend the meeting and give a speech. Mrs. MENG Bo, Associate Dean of SPPM and assistant professor LAN Yuxin led 16 Chinese and foreign students from SPPM attended the “Young Asian Leaders”, which was set up especially for the students. MID2015 students were selected to participate in this event.
Dean of SPPM, Professor XUE Lan hosted the sub forum “Government Innovation: Efficiency through Innovation”, and then delivered a keynote speech in another sub forum “Eradicating Poverty—From Receiving Fish to Learning How to Fish”. Around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), XUE Lan analyzed the China’s main strategies to eliminate poverty and promote social development in the next five years, then exchanged thoughts with guests and scholars in depth.
As the only invited team by the conference organizer, students of SPPM actively participated in the various sub forums, and communicated with conference guests from the perspective of young people. The conference provides an excellent opportunity and platform for students to broaden their horizons and enhance professional exchanges.
The Asian Leadership Conference (ALC) is an annual international conference hosted in Seoul, Korea, by the The ChosunIlbo, a major Korean daily newspaper. The inaugural conference was in March 2005. The conference addresses important issues in Asia and the world. The conference has hosted over one hundred and fifty speakers and over one thousand guests. As the largest one among all of the previous meetings, the current conference attracted 134 excellent leaders all over the world.
