On the afternoon of April 26th, Dr. ZHANG huidong, Deputy Director of the Training Division at the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, visited SPPM as part of the Guest Lecture Series. He gave a speech on the topic of policies and practices in China’s rural poverty alleviation and development. Assistant Dean, MENG Bo, hosted this lecture. Approximately 20 international and Chinese students attended.
Dr. Zhang introduced the strategies and polices of rural poverty alleviation implemented by the Chinese government, and the achievements made in the recent 30 years. In addition, Dr. Zhang explained the current challenges faced by the government in the area of rural poverty alleviation. Lessons and experiences that could be shared with other developing countries were also introduced. The international students, especially IMPA students, presented very specific questions that reflected their home country experiences to Dr. Zhang, in order to advise their own work in poverty reduction.
SPPM launched the official cooperation with IPRCC in 2010. The two organizations focus on producing textbooks in the field of international poverty reduction and collectively educating MID students. Dr. ZHANG Huidong graduated from Renmin University in China’s Agricultural Economical Management and received his doctorate’s degree in 2005. During his work at IPRCC, he has participated in over 30 research projects, and organized 15 international poverty training classes.
