To give MID students more hands on experience of China’s development, MID Program Office recently organized a boot camp with two field trips and one lecture.
In the afternoon of March 3rd, a group of MID 2013 Class students visited Beijing Xicheng District Maternal and Child Care Service Center. Professor SHEN Qunhong arranged the trip with the service center, and Professor YIN Chengzhi lead the class to the site. MID students visited different departments of the service center accompanied by their staff and doctors. Students were told about features of the center such as their target population, functions and their characteristics, and also raised many questions after comparing to their home countries’ situation. After the Maternal and Child Care service center, MID students also visited a public health center to observe the healthcare of grass roots public.
In the afternoon of March 4, MID students visited Cheku Café (车库: Meaning Garage) with their class professor, JIA Xijin. The cafe is a famous NGO in China, which provides a platform for young entrepreneurs. The staff introduced the organization’s operation and cases. After a briefing session, MID students communicated with on-site entrepreneurs about their experience.
In the afternoon of March 7, United Nations Senior Translator, Mr. CUI Jingrui who is studying in SPPM for a short term were invited by the MID program office to attend an informal meeting. Mr. Cui shared his work experiences in his long term service for the UN, and his sentiments about life, and answered students’ questions regarding how to apply for UN’s internship and jobs.
As a new endeavor for field training, it was the first time for MID program to organize a Boot Camp. MID students not only showed high levels commitments, but they also spoke highly for the events. In the future, the MID Program Office will continue efforts to organize field trainings to meet students’ needs.
