On May 15, Columbia University’s Professor Jeffrey Sachs had an official meeting with MID students accompanied by SPPM’s dean, Professor XUE Lan at the main building, Tsinghua University. MDP Executive Director, Associate Professor, YIN Chengzhi hosted this event.
May 15th, Professor Sachs met MID students during his presence in the Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s fourth leadership council at Tsinghua University. He briefly introduced the widely debated issues of sustainable development. Concentrating on MDP’s field training, he advised students on internship and career development in this area and answered some questions. At last, the representatives of MID student presented MIDpoint, an independent publication on international development, initiated by the MID students.
Jeffrey David Sachs is an America economist and Director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University. Sachs is renowned for his role as an adviser to Eastern European and developing country governments during the transition from communism to a market system or during periods of economic crisis. He is a senior Adviser to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon on the Millennium Development Goals. Having held the same position under former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, Sachs has authored three New York Times bestsellers: The End of Poverty (2005), Common Wealth (2008), and The Price of Civilization (2011).
