On July 10, MID 2013 student, John Sember, was selected and invited to attend the Plenary Session of the 5th Annual U.S.-China High-level Consultation on People-to-people Exchange by Tsinghua University’s International Students Office as one of the American student representative. This high-level event was held at The Great Hall of the People to recognize 35 years of U.S.-China relations, which focused on educational exchange programs between both countries. U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, and Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China, LIU Yandong were two of the high-level officials speaking at the event. Tsinghua University’s President, CHEN Jining and SPPM’s Dean, XUE LAN were also invited to attend the conference.
Since 2007, MID program has recruited 48 American students, which accounts for 29.2% of the total student number. The American students were from Cornell University, University of Maryland, American University, New York University and other famous universities with diversified backgrounds. American alumni work for renowned organizations, like Brookings Institution, Washington Center and Kaplan University. Some was recruited by China’s state-owned enterprises, like MCC Overseas, or founded NGO (BEAM) in China. In order to encourage more American students to study in China, Chinese government established Sino-US scholarship to attract excellent Americans who are interested in China. MID program always welcome American students to join.
