MID2014 student, Sanva Saephan from Laos, won the first prize of teaching field trip essay competition, which was held by Tsinghua Unversity's Educational Poverty Alleviation Office.
Certificate in Chinese
Sanva joined SAEPA’s weekend trip to Pingxiang, Hebei province in the mid of October for two days. He not only taught English for local students, but also shared his unique experience as a boy who grew up in a refugee camp in Thailand and made his dream come true in Singapore. He encouraged students to explore the world with their own dreams, which really knocked the students out. Based on the trip experience, he wrote an essay after returning to Tsinghua. Finally, he was awarded the first prize of SAEPA’s teaching field trip essay competition as the only international student among the winners.
Sanva taught English for local students.
From this semester, MID program started the cooperation with Tsinghua University’s Educational Poverty Alleviation Office to recommend MID students to join teaching field trips. Including Sanva, there have been 4 students who went to Hebei and Henan provinces for the trips. Producing their own advantages, MID students can teach English for local students, and also share their home countries’ culture and traditions, which help enrich teaching contents and broaden the horizon for local students. Sending MID students to join teaching field trip is an innovation of MID field training, creating a new model for field trip organization. SAEPA’s trips provide good opportunities for MID students to understand China's rural development and participate in Chinese students' field trips.
